Two for $10 lunches every Tuesday!
The lavender iced latte is the best drink ever!
The kitchen is a chef's dream!
Pinhook is a Durham staple! If you haven't been to a show here yet, you're doing something wrong :) Pro Tip: Get there early for a good spot! This place bottlenecks quickly.
Excellent corner lot on one of the main thoroughfares of American Village
DPAC is Durham staple that I don't frequent often enough. As the playbill states, "There's something for DPAC at everyone," and it's true! If you're visiting Durham for the first time, you have to check the schedule and see if there's a show for you at DPAC!
Lovely renovations make this home feel like a new, blank slate for your buyers! Great layout for a young couple looking for their first home.
I'm loyal to Hot Asana for one main reason: amazing instructors! If you're looking for an experts-only, private yogi club vibe in your yoga studio, Hot Asana is NOT for you. This studio is the most low-key, welcoming environment I've ever found to do yoga. They also play fantastic music! Come sweat it out with us here.
Great sangria and tapas with a casual, non-stuffy atmosphere.
Q Shack is the best BBQ in Durham!
The journey to Nickelpoint brewery alone will make you want to live in the neighborhood if you don’t already! Tucked deep inside the belt line just behind 5 Points lives one of Raleigh’s best kept secret breweries. The beer is experimental and easy to drink, and the atmosphere is casual and light hearted. Perfect for anything from a first date to a tacky Christmas sweater party.
Absolutely magical woods with an abundant amount of trails, picnic spots, and breath taking views. Only 20 minutes from DT Oakland or Berkley. This is why I love the Bay Area 😍
Wine and Design is the perfect holiday or birthday activity with friends and family. This particular location in Durham is my favorite because you can grab some beers from nearby Growlr Grlz (hey, nobody said it couldn’t be beer and Design) before you go in, or get a slice of pizza from Randy’s next door when you’re finished!
Two words: Chicken Tinga. Actually, I’ve never had anything bad from Mez, but it’s their signature chicken tinga that keeps me coming back. That, and the fact that they couldn’t be more centrally located in the triangle. Perfect for business lunches or happy hours with folks who work in RTP.
Literally the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Room is spacious, clean and comfortable with a sitting nook, and a mini fridge. Breakfast buffet is the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had: lots of fresh options, it’s actually better than any breakfast I would be making for myself at home. If you have any reason to stay in the East Bay, stay at this hotel!!!
I’d almost rather keep this place to myself, but it’s too cool not to share! I get all of my client’s housewarming gifts here because every trinket, terrarium and succulent they offer is just so unique and adorable! They also have a DIY bar for making your own terrariums - can you say first date idea?!
Pour Taproom is one of Durham’s new-as-of 2017 bars in the heart of downtown. Located next door to the lobby of the new Unscripted hotel, Pour is a great starter place for your night out on the town. My favorite part is that you can pour yourself as much or as little beer as you like, so you get to try out all of their selections!
If you’re looking for the best delivery pizza in the Triangle, you’re in luck, because Randy’s has multiple locations!! The only truly NY style pizza I’ve found in NC, Randy’s boasts an impressive menu of specialty pies that are all customizable. Their meatball sub is great too, particularly on a lazy Sunday after a late night out when you don’t feel like leaving the house 😜
Such an accommodating and friendly staff, yet the place has a very hip and trendy feel. We had a 30 minute wait for a table, but were able to order drinks and apps in our own little private nook by the front door while we waited. The pizza was delicious, but again, more importantly, the staff did an excellent job of communication and professional service. Love the vibe here!!
I know poke places have become the most trendy restaurant style on every corner, but hey, Durham has to have one too! This locally owned poke bowl spot has some of the freshest fish I’ve had in Durham. Healthy and light, yet savory and satisfying, this place is worth the $12 for a regular sized bowl. If you get one of their combo options, I recommend the courageous...but you can also create your own, and the options are endless.
From glass bottle cokes to unique specialty wood fire pies, Pizzeria Toro is a Durham staple. Most importantly, be sure to get the Kale salad. I’ve tried to recreate it multiple times myself, but just can’t seem to get it right, so it keeps me coming back!
The Pit is probably my favorite BBQ spot to take out of towners because it's such a crowd pleaser. Believe it or not, they have great healthy and vegetarian options on the menu, in addition to all your favorite BBQ classics. The mac & cheese is excellent, as is the potato salad. Pro Tip: Parking on Rigsbee and Geer St. can be tough, but they offer free valet!
House processed cheese and white bread make up a classic and cooked-to-perfection grilled cheese sandwich. Order it with the tomato soup, obviously. The menu boasts plenty of other tasty options, so I can’t wait to visit again and try more! Possibly one of the best features of Jack Tar, bottomless coffees pour freely in true diner style. And it’s open until midnight! Hello much needed late night downtown munchie spot!
Happy + Hale seemed a little too healthy for me at first, but I'm sold now! The menu is diverse enough that you'll find just the flavors you are craving, and the atmosphere is clean, bright and inspirational. Located right on the corner of 9th and Main, it couldn't be a more centrally located lunch spot to meet a friend or business associate for a quick, healthy bite!
My friends and I went to Radius in Hillsborough to catch some local live bluegrass music on a Thursday night. The atmosphere is cozy and laid back! Having said that, be prepared to wait awhile for your food, because no one seems to be in a hurry at Radius, but the pizza is worth it! They also have a very unique rotating tap selection, so be sure to visit on a night when you’re thirsty for beer!
This place is tiny, and the wait was long, but it’s worth it! Come planning to enjoy drinks at the bar and sit down an hour + later for some delicious southern small plates. The Mac and cheese is decadent - 4 people couldn’t finish one order!
4 hour wait was worth it! Best fries I've ever had. I recommend going to the brewery across the street while you're waiting.
My favorite aspect of Beer Study is the ability to buy delicious beers from all over the world, including some favorites from my hometown, Asheville. Both a bottle shop and cozy bar, Beer Study is a great watering hole to meet your friends for a weeknight drink. You can catch live music there often, and they have arcade games in the back room.
One of Durham's best kept secrets might not be so secret anymore! Once a butchery turned restaurant, this place has some of the best ramen in town. Get here early to get one of the 7 tables, or be prepared to stand in line!
Beyu is my favorite coffee shop in downtown Durham because it's not your typical "hipster" coffee shop. Everyone makes you feel so welcome. I could work here for hours. The breakfast food is delicious and affordable, and the coffee is always hot! PLUS the added bonus that Beyu also transforms into a cozy jazz venue and bar in the evenings.
Growler Grlz might not look like an exciting destination from the outside, but don’t let their curbside facade fool you. This place is a great hang out spot for catching up with friends who like beer. The selection is so big, you might be overwhelmed on your first visit, but I promise you will leave happy. Particularly because you get to take your favorite beers home in Growler! Who doesn’t love beer to-go? Pro tip: Randy’s Pizza is next door and delicious!
From Italian subs and hotdogs, to whitefish salad and beet (say what?!) sandwiches, Lucky’s has it all! An absolute must-try for downtown Durham lunch. Pro tip: they also have those delicious Zapps New Orleans style chips. Only place I’ve seen them in Durham!
Tiny is the sweetest independently owned children’s shop you will find in the triangle! Look no further for the perfect gift for any little one in your life. Even as someone with no children of my own, I could easily spend 30 minutes in this store.
Pie Pushers started as a food truck and has since turned brick and mortar. Not much else to say, other than delicious pizza. The space is beautiful if you have a chance to go in, but you can also take advantage of their order window on the street when you're out at night. Next door to Pinhook, it's a great place to stop for a post-show late night snack.
Elmo's is a Durham staple, meaning if you move to Durham you absolutely must make sure you have eaten at Elmo's more than once. You'll want to go back more than once anyway because the menu is so extensive! Favorite for breakfast: chilaquiles, favorite for lunch/dinner: chicken and dumplings. If you haven't been, just go. Now.
